My favourite dessert as a child was my mum’s homemade Apple Crumble. My mum would boil the apples until they were no longer solid, basically producing an apple sauce. It is one of those recipes that I have always wanted to attempt for myself. Luckily, the internet is full of recipes with how to make apple crumble with an apple sauce rather than sliced apples.
The one thing I quickly learnt is that you do need the right type of apple if you want to produce a sauce. Most of the recipes I found, including this one, call for Bramley Apples. However, any apple can work for the recipe, but the texture of the apple sauce will differ.
